Over 100 years ago the Oakland Fire Department was one of the first in the United States to give African American Men the right to be Firefighters. The Oakland Fire Department made history again more than 40 years ago when it was one of the first to give women the same opportunitY. These are the stories of The African American men and the women who so bravely served and put their lives on the line every day as they simultaneously fought for equal rights, BEHIND THE STATION DOOR.
Director & Cast
Our cast is an amazing group of Firefighters, active duty and retired, who held a variety of positions ranging from Fire chief to Engineer, Captain and Lieutenant. BEHIND THE STATION DOOR is narrated, produced and directed by award winning filmmaker and Professor Zahrah Farmer. She also hosts and Executive Produces Days With Zahrah which airs on ABC and Confirming Stills which launched on the National Geographic Channel and also aired on ABC. Her background includes producing, directing and writing for a variety of stations ranging from BET to CNN.
